WIP Wednesday

I've started joining (!) the therapy crochet afghan in beautiful teal.

More squares have been added since I took this picture.  It's coming along quite nicely, the teal making the solid color squares really pop.

Progress had halted but I have decided to resume work on the granny stripes cowl.

I stopped because it seems as though it's going to be a longer cowl than I wanted.  I'm seaming it up at the end as I didn't want to try and join 150 chain stitches in a loop without it twisting, so i can always make it to whatever length I want, but I don't want a chunky seam.  It's too short to be a decent scarf, (scarflette?) and I don't really want to add buttons to it.  So I've decided I'll push forward.  It'll just be a longish cowl and maybe next time I'll chain 100.

Squares!  Or, soon to be squares.

The top red, yellow, and blue is a redo of my Vera's Spike Stitch Daisy Pattern.  I don't like how the center curled and was fluffy, and am just not pleased with it in general so I decided to redo it.  The pink one is a square design that I had floating around in my brain for a bit, so it's nice to get it out and in 3D.  I've been writing these down as I go so watch this space for new patterns!

A knit (!) hat and cupcake pincushion are in progress as well, because I can't have just one project going on at a time, but I don't have pictures of those.

What's on your hooks and needles this week?

ETA:  Check out these 5 crochet hacks.  #4 is going to save me a ton of money!

WIP Wednesday

My family and I went to Shenandoah National Park over the weekend, and I have a lot of pictures to show but first WIP Wednesday, which I didn't want to skip, especially with a new project on the hooks and an itch to pick up the needles.  A few teasers from Instagram:

Crescent Rock Overlook

Sunset

Progress on the therapy crochet afghan have been halted.  I think I wove in one end and gave up.  (That's one end itself, not the ends on one square.)  And I have quite a few ends to go, along with around 20 squares in light yellow and pink to brighten things up a bit.  Maybe I'll join and then weave in all the ends at the end.

But why has progress stopped?  Because of these next two projects:

My mom's birthday present, made from African flower motifs, which is unfortunately late.

And a granny stripe cowl!  Free pattern to come soon.  I'm using Knit Picks Palette, which is a dream to work with, though it is thin.  No squeak of acrylic on my hook, just rows and rows of bitty, fluffy granny clusters.

And despite all this crochet, I'm tempted to pick up the needles and cast on for a shawl!  We'll see...

WIP Wednesday

I've been having a hard time in the Life in General department, and it has bled into my crafting life so much so the only WIP I really have today are my solid grannies. I call it my therapy crochet.

Hopefully I'll be able to knock out of this depression soon, and get back to work.  I need to work on my mom's birthday gift and some other patterns I've found while browsing the web.  A lot are ones I have yarn in my stash for, so I'm really excited about that.

So today's WIP is a different one.  A living WIP.  My garden!

We're growing a lot this year.  We have blueberries:

grape tomatoes:

Cajun belle peppers:

And three types of onions, this one a red onion, and I think it's ready to be picked.

I also have candy and white onions, along with 'husky red' tomatoes, and 'purple beauty' peppers, the peppers we haven't seen any of.  I think that plant needs to be repotted.

And just a shot of one of my favorite flowers, some black petunias I've found the past few years.  I know it's not in focus but I like the vintagey and snapshotty feel. (thanks Hipstamatic)

And here's poor Pip; all he wanted was to go outside, but if he does he'll probably leap over to the neighbor's deck so he's a window watcher.

WIP Wednesday!

WIP Wednesday! by onepinkhippo
WIP Wednesday!, a photo by onepinkhippo on Flickr.
I love this new app I found for my phone, PicFrame. I can easily make mosaics using the pictures on my phone instead of uploading and doing it on the computer.

Anyway, current projects:

Top: working on the legs and snout for a pig amigurumi I started making at the end of May. Woops. I just hate sewing on those bitty parts.

Bottom: acrylic squares for the Knit-a-Square charity.

Right: Domo modeling a Blythe sweater for a swap.

Outtakes Wednesday: Week 1 // WIP Wednesday

I've had so much fun taking pictures of my Domo in public I end up taking more than one. And it's so hard decide which one should be the picture I've decided to make a mosaic on Wednesday with the "outtakes." I know when I go to New York City in a few weeks I know I'll take like 20 pictures a day of my little Domo. So I present to you Outtakes Wednesday, Week 1:
1.  (top left) from ADAD 1: Milagro does the Domo mouth!
2. (top right) from ADAD 2: Lord of the Eggs
3. (bottom left) from ADAD 2: Alex O'Loughlin! He's our man! Woo!
4. (bottom left) from ADAD 2: I found a video about Britons exploring a Wal*Mart. One of the things they thought was quite strange is that we keep our iced tea in petrol containers! After sending the video to Sarah/EssHaych she commented on it that it was quite strange. And when I was in the store I had to get a picture!

Stay tuned for Monday's week 1 wrap up!

WIP WEDNESDAY
Oh no, normal features will not be interrupted! As far as WIP Wednesday goes:

1. I'm knitting two Blythe sweaters for a swap with mellow is me on Flickr. (to be finished ASAP)
2. As previously mentioned I'm joining the squares for my grandmother's afghan. (to be finished by the 20th)
3. My Blythe sized Domo Sweater Dress prototype is on hold until I finish #1. (Did I mention I frogged the Fair Isle because it was too tight? It's looking better now.)
4. Stephanie Sun replied to my question about her Commuter Fingerless Mitts. I feel a lot more confident on finishing, as I was quite confused on how to switch from DPNs/in the round to the straights. Even though #1 and #2 take precedence I might need to sneak these in somewhere. :3
5. I was crocheting a piggeh amigurumi for my friend Dana but I only finished the body and never got around to making legs, a tail or the snout. I know it'll only take me an hour, but I've been putting it off because I hate attaching pieces to ami's. Gr. There has to be an easier way. They're so fiddly, and I get annoyed when they're not on perfectly. I really need to finish this by the time August is through.

WIP Wednesday: Early Morning

*yawn*

This is one of my (many) WIPs. I had an idea the other night to make a Domo sweater for my Blythe. I found yarn in my stash in brown, white and red, though it's worsted and sport weight. I'm knitting in it Lion Brand Microspun, and even though I'm using US 1s it's coming out chunky. I think it's going to be a chunky sweater coat rather than sweater, but that's ok. Plus, my stranding/Fair Isle is a little tight, but it looks good! I hope to work on more tomorrow.
Goodnight!

15. The New Feature

This is the first part in a 16 set of posts of things I need to blog about. See more information here

Yes, these might be crazy out of order. But that's the fun, no? Anyway, we're starting off with a **new** feature! Yep, something else I'm supposed to do on specific days and not do it, yay! But this one, and all my others, I'm going to seriously try to do. So we'll see how that goes. The new feature is... drum roll... Work in Progress (WIP) Wednesday! I was reading other blogs, and one click led to another blog, and a woman had WIP Wednesdays, and I figured that's a fantastic idea, especially since I always have WIPs, and never have any FOs. Oops. I need to work on that. Today I have four to show you, and excuse the semi-lame picture quality. Though my iPhone takes awesome pictures, this is the best it can do in the low-light.

And did you know you can see what my WIPs are and their status regardless of WIP Wednesday? On the right hand sidebar, the first gadget entitled WIPs is linked directly from Ravelry. (Any knitter or crocheter needs to have an account with them.)  Just another fun way to keep track of things.

First we have a scarf. I know, a scarf right? I hate scarves. It seems like miles and miles of endless stitches and no progress. But this is Lion Brand's Wool Ease Thick and Quick on size 13s, so it's going by quickly. This is for John, another reason why it's not too bad. We saw one like this at Purl Soho, a moss/seed stitch scarf in charcoal grey, but it was from some chunky Cascade. He didn't want to buy the yarn then, but I remembered I had some T&Q in my stash. I bought another skein because he'll probably want a hat. I'm alternating two rows between each skein so the difference in dye lots isn't drastic. I'm doing moss stitch because garter stitch looks too rustic and homemade and stockinette stitch curls. This creates a nice pattern and is interesting enough that I don't want to chuck it across the room halfway through.

Christmas project! I got the new issue of Crochet Today! and was flipping through, and there was a Christmas tree garland, and I knew I had to make it. I don't have any Christmas colored sock yarn, and knew I had red, green and white in my stash so I didn't go buy any, and whipped up some. They're a tad bigger, but that's ok. They're currently waiting for me to measure the mantle and see if 6 is ok or I need 9. Then they'll get their ends woven in and be finished and ready for December.

This WIP has been removed. As a gift for my mom, I'm not sure if she reads this blog or not, so I can't have it hanging out in public. See the Ziggity Zag via Ravelry, which she doesn't have an account with, for more details. Thanks.

And finally, this is a shark. Doesn't look like it now, but I promise it'll look like a shark. (Or at least a dead alligator.) This is Anna of Mochimochi Land's pattern for the baby gator, and remember how I said when it didn't have arms or legs it looked like a shark? I redid the pattern in plain stockinette with grey and red yarn, and will knit him up some fins so I have a little shark. Cute!

And so that commences the first edition of WIP Wednesday. Hopefully next Wednesday, the tree garland and shark will be finished, I'll have gained a lot on the two scarves, and I might even have some more projects to show, especially since I have a very bad case of startitis.
